Leading MDF factory chooses Pump Power
The project
Oberon in New South Wales is home to one of Australia's largest MDF board plants, operated by CSR Timber. Due to the demand of resins from this board plant, Woodchem Australia has built a new A$15 million resin plant next door to supply the bonding resins for Oberon MDF plant and other particle board operations. Pump Power Australia was awarded complete pump supply.
The solution
The package covered various pump sets throughout the plant. Roper gear pumps were employed for resin transfer and were belt driven or coupled to VFD gear motors. The Roper design and reliability was already proven in many similar plants in the US. Also included were Versa-matic air diaphragm pumps, Lowara stainless steel centrifugal, Allweiler centrifugal, ANSI process and submersible sump pumps.
To meet the short lead time, base plates were not galvanised but coated with a high build, high solids epoxy. This type of epoxy is used in offshore marine applications, and has proven to be durable in this application.
The result
Behind the process design for the plant was Rick Millar of ME Engineering who was pleased with the outcome, "Pump Power won the contract not just on price but because of their contribution during tendering to develop practical solutions to the various pumping problems the plant presented. The documentation and support from Pump Power during installation and commissioning was good and the installed pumps have delivered the duties required." With the 30 supplied pumps now operating, the plant is in full production.
